Life or death, it’s in your hands software….

The more technological we get, the more catastrophic it becomes when technology fails. On an average day we rely on more technology than ever before to get through our routine. What’s behind all that technological magic? Usually software. But software is involved in more than just entertainment and productivity these days. We rely on software for medical tests, to keep planes from colliding in the sky, to ensure the traffic lights are changing in tandem, to put people into space, to back out of the driveway, and to store our entire life. All our memories, photos, videos, emails, bank accounts, everything! It’s all controlled in some way by code.

As a software developer, this often both fascinates and terrifies me. Because as all software developers know, there are always bugs. We might have escaped catastrophe in the millennium, but what happens as software continues to take over in the future? What else will we leave in the hands of developers in our quest for ever more technological advancement? And most importantly, what happens when, inevitably, it fails?
