Working From Home: The Good And The Bad

The Good

I never wake up early for work, unless of course I feel so inclined (which is rarely). I wear what I want to wear (usually casual and comfy is my motto). I can leave my hair wet sometimes (its long and takes forever to dry). I don’t have to worry about offending anyone by taking frequent brain breaks and getting lost in the latest news, or shopping online. And I definitely don’t have to worry about eating unhealthy at lunch time because I frequently make my own healthier lunch at home. I can even go to the gym mid-work day and get some exercise, or relocate to the park when it’s nice out. People always ask how I stay motivated to get work done, but I actually work much harder because I am in control of my own destiny and no one is going to bail me out if I slack off all day. Plus… probably the best part of it all is that I control what I work on, and for how long. I keep myself interested by switching tasks when I am stuck and need a change of pace. I am my own boss… who can argue with that?

The Bad

I don’t leave the office until late when I get caught up in what I’m working on (because the office is the second bedroom). I don’t get to meet new people and enjoy building co-worker relationships (except for my fabulous co-founder of course :). I don’t have a fully dedicated guest bedroom because it’s full of, well, my office! I don’t get the opportunity to manage a team and collaborate with multiple people throughout the day.
